Kathleen, our resident cat expert, has volunteered to tell us about her delightful furbabies.
What types of pets do you have?
I have two cats, Nibbler and Z. Nibbler is a ’traditional’ seal point Siamese (fluffy and boxy not slim and sleek). She comes from the Boulder Humane Society. Z is solid grey and very elegant. His sisters are Siamese but Z has a different dad. He comes from Siamese Cat Rescue.
How would you describe their personality?
Nibbler has a huge personality and always knows what she wants … which is to be in someone’s lap. She loves participating in Zoom calls.
Z is energetic and exciting. He loves playing games. It’s hard for him to slow down long enough to cuddle … but he’s learning.
How did your pets get their names/ nicknames?
Nibbler is named after an alien pet in the cartoon Futurama (my husband is a scientist and the character has a special relationship with his work). She is also known as Nibs, Nibsy, and the Niblonian Princess.
We really wanted to give Z a “Z” name, but couldn’t decide on just one so we just use the letter. He is also known as Zeener, Zeebo, and Z Z Bottom.
What’s one of your favorite memories with your pet?
Nibbler and Z really, really love each other. I love to see them curled up together.
What’s the funniest thing your pet has ever done?
Nibbler is a beautiful cat but when she sleeps she tends to sprawl on her belly with all four limbs sticking out in the least elegant position I have ever seen.
Z invented a special game where he stands on his hind legs to bat treats off of the counter and catch them. He plays the game every night. Even though he could get the treats faster by jumping on the counter, he loves the challenge of his game.
